Band – Devilhorn

Member(s) – Ville

What made you decide to start or join the band?

It was in late 2001 when I got this idea for doing something all by myself. I was in a band those days but I got bored with all the disagreements with song structures, riffs and even the music-style. I could play a little guitar too, as I was a drummer those days.

I mean that I could handle other instruments, not so well but I could play a little guitar and synth, and sing of course.

Are the original members still in the band?

I played everything on the first three demos, but I had a little help from Andre Lindgren who is Devilhorn's bassplayer these days. Andre played some of the tricky guitar parts which I couldn't handle. So I could say that Andre is a part of Devilhorn also.

Who writes the music?

I wrote everything on the first three demos but on Psychotic-EP even when I composed most of the music, all the arrangements and "hooks" etc. were done in our rehearsals with the whole band. Kangasmäki and Knuutila did some riffs for Psychotic-ep. In the future, I don't mind if I do one riff for the new release and the other members does the rest, it doesn't matter as long as the music kicks ass!

What is your inspiration for the lyrics?

Well, some of my lyrics go a little deeper than the usual gore-lyrics. Some of the lyrics include a little "hidden thoughts" about my childhood and a few persons that should be shot in the head. Usually I just write stuff that comes across my mind or then there is lyrics like in "I Walk Among Them" which is inspired by movies like "dawn of the dead and "28 days later".

But all the lyrics are gore in some way, this is deathmetal.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever played?

Well, Devilhorn has only had a few gigs but our first gig was a blast. It was a in my ex-hometown Kouvola in the legendary Rytmi-Katti bar. But the best ever was with my previous band Kivimetsän Druidi in Klubi, Turku with Korpiklaani.

What has been the high point of your career so far?

Our new EP.

For gigs I would say the 3 gig minitour with Korpiklaani (when I was in KmD)

What has been the low point of your career?

Well, I'm a little disappointed that my first band, Khoul, didn't make it through our disagreements. There was a lot of potential with that band. Maybe someday there would be a comeback!

How would you describe your music?

Devilhorn plays straight forward deathmetal with little dark melodies here and there.

What made you decide to sing in English?

Well, it would be interesting to sing deathmetal in Finnish but English has always been the easiest way for me. No need to sing in Finnish.

What is your favorite drink?

definitely beer. Beer + cigarette + good magazine, nothing beats that!

What is your favorite band(s)?

There are lots of favourites but the best band in the world is Pantera. I also listen music like Cannibal Corpse, Clutch, Dream Theater, Psycroptic and of course Judas Priest, Maiden etc. This list would go forever!

What is your favorite song(s)?

That's a hard one... Let's say a few

Cannibal Corpse - Frantic Disembowelment

Pantera - Shattered

Clutch - The Soapmakers

What was the last gig you went to?

Well we had a gig yesterday in our hometown Lappeenranta but the last other band I went to see was Carcosa in Lappeenranta and I mean that I particularly went to SEE the band, not getting wasted in some bar where seemed to be some band!

What was the last album you bought?

Viikate - Marraskuun lauluja I and Wintersun's tour edition version of their debut album

What was the first ever album you bought?

I think it was Pantera's cowboys from hell. That or White Zombies Devilmusic Vol 666.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 things would you take with you?

Devilhorn's Psychotic EP, stereos and beer

What is your Best quality?

I consider myself to be very easy to be friends with and I have a wicked sense of humour.

What is Your Worst Quality?

I don't have patience at all. If something delays even for a little bit, I loose my mind.

That's inherited from my relatives.

Who would you most like to kill?

If I answer this one, I would be charged for attempted murder.

Tell me about the new EP!

It is recorded, mixed and mastered by a Finnish "mastermind" Miitri Aaltonen in Music Bros -studios. The new EP contains four songs of pure hatred and the urge to kill. Your head will explode when you hear it

What’s your favorite song in the New EP?

That's a hard one because I honestly think that all the songs have their place on this album. But let's say that humans torn apart ais a true livelong killer. It rips the skin of from the helpless listeners. But every song kicks ass.

Have you started work on a new Album?

Let's hope that the next release is our debut album... but yes, we have some new stuff for the next release. I would say the new stuff is a bit faster but there will be some doomish slower songs also.

But this is too early to say what the new release will be like but at this moment those are adjectives that could fit best.
